Covid Stats for 07/17/20

Huge new case numbers being posted this week. Texas reported over 16,000 cases yesterday, followed by Florida at just under 14,000 and California with 9,800. Compare that with the 769 reported in New York. People are wearing masks in every store I go into. And many people out walking when I’m walking the dogs are wearing masks. Noone is wearing them on the tennis courts, but I don’t really expect it while exercising. And with kids going back to school, oh boy, this fall is going to get interesting.

If you look at the trends,

  • The virus appears, and starts to increase and spread

  • Methods are put in place to stop the spread (close economy) and it starts to decline

  • Then a combination of BLM Protests, Memorial Day and state re-openings, and new case counts start to increase again

  • Not sure it even had a chance to decline before 4th of July and more re-openings, which has caused it to continue to increase

  • And now we’re on a second plateau (I’m predicting it won’t increase much more than this, i.e. 2% day over day case growth)

  • Assuming there is no big ‘event’ over the summer, we should see a decline in August

  • Will we see another increase in the fall when kids start to go back to school? Likely.
